I Am by ashryn I Am by ashryn
i don't care if it's difficult to 'tell' what's there.

i don't care if it's technically 'off.'

completed with one layer in opencanvas.

It's been over two months, and yet this image still manages to protrude into my thoughts whenever I feel significantly less than happy.

I think you have created a great piece of art.

Late getting to this one....

Beautiful, Ashi. I love all the white space, it just adds to the feeling. Impressive, like always. :)

to me, it looks like he's cut himself. This peice speaks to me, mainly because I used to be masochistic myself (not any more... praise be to God)

There's something strangely revelatory about this piece. It looks as if somebody has been unexpectedly and brutally betrayed by the only person that ever cared about them, or so they thought. I love the mood that this piece imposes. As such, I must add this to my favourites.

did your know that the "i am" is a qoute from the bible?

That was partially intentional.

I don't exactly make my disdain for Christian dogma a secret.

A winter's day,
In a deep and dark December.
I am alone,
Gazing from my window
To the streets below
On a freshly fallen silent shroud of snow

Very powerful image. Reminded me of one of my favourite songs. :)

Wow, this is gorgeous. It's so soft and lonely. The contrast between the white and grey is beautiful and the snowflakes are a prefect touch. Just the right amount of white space too. The whole thing is just put together perfectly. I think I'm going to stare at it some more.

This is gorgeous... the colours and negative space give it a wonderful feeling of "emptiness", and it really does go with the way I've been feeling as of late.

God Ashryn, this is so beautiful... I can't begin to explain how much this picture drew me in. It's strange - cause I have so many artists on my watch, I go through and comment idly to let them know I care and that I'm looking at their stuff... then I'll occasionally come across something especially strong that just, grabs me and draws me in like this. This image is so beautiful, it has so much feeling, so much depth. I adore the use of colors, the greys, whites and the slight bit of red. The way it looks like he's flopped down in the snow, so sad and hurt and cold... gah. It's beautiful.

I love your use of white space. ALWAYS. You do amazing things with it even when the entire canvas seems filled up.

Actually that is kind of weird. You must be using magic.

Very touching...all that white...and then the red from the blood to bring out the contrast. I love the haziness and softness around the character on the left side, it really pushes him into that white backdrop and the shading on the right keeps him defined. Might sound obvious but I think it's something a lot of people miss on when they try effects like this.

On a side note, me and some friends were having a discussion a few weeks ago that when people are sad, snow falls on them. It was a humorous conversation but after seeing this, now the topic takes a little contrast as well and tugs on those heart strings. Great work! :)
